Résumé

This case contrasts two French expatriation
experiences in China through the perspectives of two HR managers. Jean's company faced major challenges when managing expatriates in a central China joint venture, while Philippe's company implemented a large-scale infrastructure project in a coastal province. The comparison highlights the drivers of expatriation success and failure, the costs of mobility, and the challenges of family adjustment. Designed for management and HR courses, it encourages students to analyze the factors influencing expatriation outcomes and to consider alternatives to traditional expatriation models.
