Résumé

This fictional case study follows Velora Design, a sustainable fashion e-commerce startup facing several business challenges related to sales growth, profitability, pricing decisions, and product launch performance. Through a series of interconnected analytical problems, students apply business mathematics concepts including graphical analysis, linear functions, break-even analysis, quadratic equations, rates of change, and derivatives. The case aims to help students connect mathematical techniques with realistic business decision-making situations.

Objectifs pédagogiques

After completing this case study, students should be able to:
Apply mathematical concepts to realistic business situations,
Represent business problems using graphs, equations, and mathematical functions, Interpret relationships between business variables using graphical analysis, Construct and analyze revenue, cost, and profit functions,
Apply break-even analysis to evaluate business performance,
Solve and interpret quadratic equations in a business context,
Analyze pricing and demand relationships using mathematical models,
Calculate and interpret average rates of change, Understand and interpret instantaneous rates of change using derivatives,
Translate mathematical results into meaningful business interpretations,
Develop quantitative reasoning and analytical problem-solving skills in business applications.
More broadly, the case aims to help students understand how mathematical tools and models can support business analysis and decision-making in a realistic e-commerce environment.
