Résumé

Selency is a platform that connects sellers and buyers of second-hand furniture and vintage accessories. This case aims to understand the stages of development of this start-up created in 2014 that has relied on successive fundraising campaigns to sustain its internationalization. The co-founders soon realized that the furniture market is a very local market and they decided to strengthen their position on the French market. Thus, this case highlights the specificities of the connection platform business model. It also focuses on the development phases of a start-up and on the different issues a start-up faces during its ignition.

Objectifs pédagogiques

This pedagogical case first illustrates concepts of strategic management:
- the concept of strategic diagnostic;
- the concepts of business ecosystem and market platform;
- the birth of an entrepreneurial idea and the elaboration of a strategy.
