This case immerses students in the role of a management controller analysing cost variances in a fast-growing sustainable mobility company. Moving beyond technical calculations, it develops their ability to interpret deviations as signals of operational, financial and strategic dynamics. Students learn to distinguish between volume and price effects, identify internal and external drivers, and assess the implications of growth, cost volatility and supplier dependency. The case strengthens their capacity to connect financial data with operational realities, evaluate risks and support decision-making in uncertain environments. By combining quantitative analysis with strategic reasoning, it prepares students to act as business partners, using variance analysis as a tool for performance steering, organisational learning and sustainable growth management.
