This case study invites students to analyse a fictional narrative about a scandal at a university restaurant in Montpellier. The scandal is triggered by a viral tweet featuring an AI-generated, doctored photo which falsely alleges a health hazard. In the story, the rumour spreads rapidly on social media, causing panic and leading to a drastic reduction in canteen attendance. Through guided analysis and peer discussion, students will explore the psychological and social mechanisms behind the spread of fake news. This activity encourages critical thinking about digital content, emotional influence, and misinformation in the AI era. It also prompts reflection on personal and collective responsibility in verifying information.
